How to Add an AI Chatbot to a WordPress Website (No Plugin Needed)
Good news: adding a chatbot to WordPress is a copy-paste job. You don't need a developer, and you usually don't even need a plugin. Here's every route.
Before you start
You need your chatbot's embed snippet — a short piece of code from your chatbot dashboard. With SwingLeads AI it looks like this (your dashboard fills in your own bot ID and key):

- Go to Appearance → Editor → Patterns → Footer.
- Add a Custom HTML block at the end of the footer template.
- Paste the snippet, save. The widget now loads on every page.
Route 2 — classic themes
- Go to Appearance → Theme File Editor → footer.php (child theme recommended).
- Paste the snippet just before
</body>and update the file.
Route 3 — page builders & hosts
- Elementor: Elementor → Custom Code → add snippet → location “body end”.
- Astra / Kadence / GeneratePress: each has a “footer scripts” box under theme options or a hooks feature.
- Managed hosts: most expose a “header & footer scripts” panel — paste into the footer field.
Route 4 — a snippets plugin
If editing themes makes you nervous, install a header/footer scripts plugin, paste the snippet in the footer box, save. Done.
Check it worked
- Open your site in a private window — the chat bubble should appear bottom-right.
- Ask it a question you trained it on and one you didn't; the second should end with it offering to take your number.
- On mobile, confirm the bubble doesn't cover your call button.
